Blackheath's award-winning weekly farmers' market in the station car park, where farmers and producers sell seasonal fruit and veg, meat, fish, dairy, bread and cakes direct.
Voted Best Market in Lewisham at the 2025 Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards, Blackheath Farmers' Market has been turning the station car park into a weekly hub of community activity since September 2000. It is run by London Farmers' Markets, and the stalls are taken by the farmers, growers and food makers themselves, so regulars end up on first-name terms with the people who produce their food. The market has also featured on BBC One in The Farmers' Country Showdown.
Expect fruit and vegetables, cheese and dairy, beef, lamb and pork, fish, eggs, poultry and game, bread and cakes, honey and preserves, plants and cut flowers, cooked food and drinks. Weekly milk, Norfolk brown shrimps and local honey are fixtures, and the seasons set the rest: root veg in January, wild garlic in March, asparagus and strawberries in May, peas in June, cherries in July, apples and plums from August, corn in September, game in October, celery in November and turkeys in December.
Not every stall attends every week. The market runs rain or shine, including on London Marathon day, and only closes between Christmas and New Year. Bring your own bags and containers to cut down on plastic; well-behaved dogs are very welcome.
