A traditional Victorian community pub on Old Dover Road, Blackheath, with changing real ales and craft beers, a bespoke wine menu, Pieminister pies, live music, a monthly quiz and a beer garden.
The British Oak is a traditional Victorian pub at 109 Old Dover Road in Blackheath. It keeps plenty of period character, with an ironwork facade, wood panelling, exposed brick walls and a cosy fire, and the team describe it as a home-from-home where people can relax, meet friends and enjoy good drink, food and entertainment.
The bar offers a regularly changing range of real ales, craft keg and bottled beers, lagers and ciders, alongside a bespoke wine menu, a gin palace, soft drinks and coffee. Food comes from the full Pieminister menu, served in house every day, with a new pie menu introduced in summer 2026 that includes vegetarian filo pies. Pies can also be ordered for collection by calling the pub, or for delivery through Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat.
The British Oak is very much a community local. Blackheath Folk Club meets here on Tuesday nights, there is a pub quiz on the first Wednesday of the month, and the pub hosts live bands, themed party nights and big matches on its screens. Out back is a beer garden, which the pub notes is home to real live chickens.
