French patisserie and coffee shop on Blackwall Lane, Westcombe Park, making macarons, croissants, tarts and celebration cakes by hand in small batches.
Cakes & Layers is an artisan patisserie and coffee shop on Blackwall Lane, founded by pastry chef Thu Ha and baker Clément. Thu Ha trained in fine patisserie and Clément in bread and viennoiserie, and together they make authentic French pastries with a simple rule: quality over quantity.
Everything is made by hand from scratch in small batches, using good, responsibly sourced ingredients and no artificial additives, preservatives or animal gelatine, so the range is vegetarian-friendly. The counter is filled with delicate macarons, all-butter croissants and viennoiserie, individual patisseries such as fruit tarts, lemon meringue tarts and Paris-Brest, and larger cakes to share. You can sit in and enjoy them with a coffee, or take them away.
The shop also makes bespoke cakes for celebrations, including tiered wedding cakes and traditional croquembouches, and takes orders for events. The team works hard to keep waste down, with minimal, reusable and biodegradable packaging and an aim of zero food waste. Their pastries can also be ordered for delivery through Deliveroo, and there is a second Cakes & Layers shop at Tidemill Square on Greenwich Peninsula.
