A free, not-for-profit gallery, working artist studios, bar, coffee shop, gift shop and book shop on Greenwich Peninsula, with a packed programme of exhibitions, workshops and music nights.

Firepit is Greenwich Peninsula’s open door: an independent gallery and studio building on the ground floor of Upper Riverside at 10 Cutter Lane, a few minutes’ walk from North Greenwich station. It opened on 1 April 2023, with the keys to an empty building, and became a Community Interest Company in 2024. There are no shareholders: everything the bar, shops, gallery and room hire bring in goes back into the programme and the building, which is why the door is open and the gallery is free.

Eleven artists work full time in the studios, with fifteen languages between them, and the gallery hosts a changing programme of exhibitions, from studio open days and Ravensbourne University MA shows to group exhibitions open to artists from across London. Alongside the art there’s Italian coffee and armchairs by the windows looking out across the Peninsula, Alfie’s Bar on event nights, Fridays and Saturdays, a gift shop of work made and designed by Firepit’s artists, and a book shop curated by the in-house press Sold Out Publishing, championing underrepresented voices.

Most events happen in the Red Room, a sunken, wood-panelled space with curved leather seating and a real firepit at its centre. It’s home to monthly music and spoken word nights, including Firepit Tales, the spoken word open mic that has run since November 2023, as well as jazz, acoustic and lo-fi evenings, plus a busy calendar of creative workshops, life drawing, wellness sessions, wine masterclasses and community events, over half of them free.

All five spaces, from a single long workshop table to the whole ground floor, can be hired for exhibitions, workshops, launches, parties and filming, and community events are hosted free. The gallery is step-free, with a ramp for the Red Room, and Firepit sits close to The Line outdoor art trail, The O2 and the Design District.
