Greenwich's historic covered market, trading since 1737: more than 120 shops and stalls selling art, crafts, antiques, vintage and street food, plus a riverside food market by the Cutty Sark.
Greenwich Market sits at the heart of Greenwich town centre, inside the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Stalls first traded here as far back as the 14th century; a Royal Charter granted in 1700 established a regulated market, and it officially opened on 3 September 1737. The covered market hall, under the glazed, steel-trussed roofs that replaced the old timber one in 1902, is reached through pedestrian lanes from Greenwich Church Street, College Approach, King William Walk and Nelson Road, and is ringed by shops, pubs and cafés.
Across the main hall, its surrounding lanes and the Cutty Sark Street Food Market there are more than 120 shops and stalls. Two markets share the hall on different days of the week: the Arts & Crafts Market, with handmade jewellery, prints, ceramics, clothing and gifts, and the Antiques & Collectables Market, full of vintage finds, curios and bric-a-brac. Street food runs through it all, from pies and mash to churros and Thai curries.
From spring to late autumn the Cutty Sark Street Food Market brings food stalls to Cutty Sark Gardens beside the famous tea clipper, with dishes from Greek souvlaki and Italian pizza to Spanish paella and Korean corn dogs. The market is a five-minute walk from Greenwich Pier and across the road from Cutty Sark DLR.
