An Off-West End theatre and charity on Crooms Hill since 1969, known for new work, theatre for young audiences and its award-winning pantomime, with a 400-seat auditorium and studio.
Greenwich Theatre is one of London's leading Off-West End theatres, on Crooms Hill in the heart of Greenwich, and a registered charity. Built in 1969, it presents a year-round programme of established and emerging theatre, and supports artists to develop new work and take it on tour nationally and internationally, so the development of new work sits at the centre of everything it does.
It is known for its nationally regarded theatre for children and young people and for its award-winning family pantomime, a Greenwich tradition each Christmas. The programme mixes in-house productions with visiting drama, comedy, music, magic and family shows, along with scratch nights that give new writing and early ideas their first audience. Dame Helen Mirren is a patron.
The theatre has a 400-seat main auditorium and a black-box Studio seating 50 end-on or 70 cabaret-style, and both are available for hire between productions for performances, recordings, rehearsals and private events. Less than 10% of the theatre's income comes from public funding, so ticket sales, the bar, hires and the support of Friends, Angels and donors keep it running. Captioned, BSL-interpreted and audio-described performances are available, with free access registration and companion tickets.
