Lewisham Arthouse is a not-for-profit, artist-led co-operative based in a Grade II listed building in Deptford, providing affordable artist studios, public gallery space, and diverse community arts programming.
Established in 1992, Lewisham Arthouse (LAH) operates as a not-for-profit artist-led co-operative from its historic Grade II listed building on Lewisham Way. The organisation is dedicated to supporting practising artists and makers by providing 40 affordable studio spaces, which are subsidised through a member-led work hours scheme. Beyond its studio provision, the Arthouse serves as a vibrant cultural hub for the local community, offering an inclusive Project Space for exhibitions, experimental music performances, and a variety of creative workshops in disciplines such as ceramics, weaving, printmaking, and life drawing. Dedicated to fostering contemporary art, LAH provides open access to specialist facilities, including an analogue photography darkroom and a pottery kiln. Through its committee-based structure and partnerships with local schools, colleges, and charities, the co-operative remains deeply embedded in the borough's cultural landscape. The organisation is committed to offering affordable opportunities for emerging artists and community groups who may be excluded from traditional gallery spaces, ensuring that high-quality artistic engagement remains accessible to the general public.
