Some 600 affordable artist and maker studios by the Thames in west Woolwich, with a free gallery, print studio, sculpture workshop and a year-round programme of exhibitions, open studios and makers' markets.
Thames-Side Studios is one of the country's biggest creative workspaces: around 600 studios for artists, designers and makers on the riverside off Warspite Road, on land that has been a place of making since Henry VIII founded Woolwich Dockyard in 1512. The studios opened here in 2010, and a second site has since opened in Shoreditch.
For visitors, the draw is the Thames-Side Gallery, with a busy programme of exhibitions including the Contemporary British Painting Prize, studio-holder shows and guest artists. There are also popular public events: Woolwich Open Studios in early summer, when artists open their doors, and a Makers' Market in November.
The site also has a print studio and print shop, a sculpture workshop and other facilities that can be booked by phone or email.
