Greenwich's oldest pub, built in 1691 beside Greenwich Park: CAMRA-listed real ales, a candlelit mirrored restaurant, Sunday roasts and an award-winning garden.
Built in 1691, the Plume of Feathers is the oldest pub in Greenwich. It stands on Park Vista beside Greenwich Park, close to the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum, on what was once the busy Dover Road: coaches leaving Greenwich passed through the gatehouse of the Queen's House and found the pub waiting as the last stop before Kent. In 2013 the Greenwich Society voted it the best pub in SE10.
Inside, an original claygate fireplace, maritime relics and historical paintings give it the feel of a country pub in the middle of the city. The pub is listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide and keeps four real ales, including Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter, Adnams and two guest beers, alongside draught lagers, Stowford Press cider and bottled beers.
The candlelit mirrored restaurant serves everything from snacks and light bites to a full menu of English and Continental dishes and traditional pub favourites, with an international wine list. Sunday roasts made with fresh seasonal produce are served in sittings, and booking ahead is essential. In summer the award-winning garden is the place to eat outdoors. The pub also runs quiz nights and can be hired for events. Maze Hill station is a few minutes' walk away.
