The UK's first conservatoire for music and dance, formed in 2005, with its music faculty at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and dance at the Laban Building in Deptford.
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is a conservatoire and registered charity with its music faculty at King Charles Court in the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, and its dance faculty at the Laban Building on Creekside in Deptford. It was formed in 2005 when Trinity College of Music in Greenwich merged with the Laban Centre in Deptford, creating the first conservatoire for music and dance in the UK, and between them the two institutions share more than 125 years of history.
Its aim is to redefine excellence: taking risks, questioning tradition and nurturing individuality across music, dance and musical theatre, with the arts seen as a force for cultural and social progress. Alongside undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, it trains younger artists through its Centre for Advanced Training and junior programmes, and offers short courses, summer schools and creative music and dance classes for children, young people and adults in the local community and beyond.
Trinity Laban is also one of the area's busiest performance programmes, with concerts, opera scenes, musical theatre and dance performances by students and visiting artists throughout the year, at the Laban Theatre in Creekside, at Blackheath Halls and around the Old Royal Naval College. Many events are free or low-cost and open to the public.
