Spanish and Italian restaurant in Blackheath Village with sharing tapas, stone-baked pizzas, pasta and dishes from its own charcoal grill, in a Romani vardo-style room.
Tziganos is a Mediterranean restaurant on Montpelier Vale in the heart of Blackheath Village, a short walk from the heath and Greenwich Park. It brings together Spanish and Italian cooking: the restaurant started out focused on grills, then moved towards tapas, and today the menu is a mix of the two cuisines' best-known dishes.
The room is decorated in the style of a Romani vardo, the painted travelling wagon, with warm red walls, exposed brick and low hanging lights, and the atmosphere is relaxed and sociable. Meat, fish and vegetarian tapas are made for sharing, alongside homemade stone-baked pizzas, pasta dishes and chef's specials. The team's pride and joy is the traditional charcoal grill they built themselves, used for grilled fish and meat dishes.
To drink there is a long list of wines, hand-crafted cocktails and beers. Tziganos takes bookings for birthdays, family get-togethers and larger groups, offers private dining, and also does takeaway. Tables can be booked through the restaurant's website.
