An 89-acre working city farm on Shooters Hill, run by a charity and free to visit, with sheep, pigs and other animals, wildflower meadows, ancient woodland and seasonal events like Apple Day.
On the slopes of Shooters Hill, where Greenwich meets Bexley, Woodlands Farm is a real slice of countryside inside London. It's an 89-acre working farm run by The Woodlands Farm Trust, a charity, and it's free to visit (donations very welcome).
Wander the paths to meet the sheep, pigs and other farm animals, then head out across the meadows and hedgerows, where you might spot native birds, butterflies and wild flowers, and into the ancient woodland, carpeted with bluebells in spring. The farm's education work helps children and adults learn about farming life and the natural world.
Events and hire
Through the year there are seasonal events, such as the much-loved Apple Day with apple pressing, tractor and trailer rides and craft stalls, plus practical courses like traditional hedge-laying. The Education Centre and the Hay Barn are available to hire, and volunteers are always welcome.
