A grassroots Woolwich charity whose drop-in offers hot meals, showers, haircuts, laundry, clothes and expert advice to people facing homelessness and hard times.

WSUP, the Woolwich Service Users Project, is a grassroots charity on Brookhill Road in Woolwich that gives practical and emotional support to people going through, or at risk of, homelessness, poverty, addiction and other hard times. Its belief is simple: everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, whatever their situation.

The drop-in centre is a warm, safe and non-judgemental place where guests can get a hot meal, a shower, a haircut, their laundry done and clothes from the clothing bank, with no appointment needed. WSUP says it is the only place in the borough offering free showers, haircuts, laundry and a clothing bank. Wednesdays are for women only.

Partner organisations run regular sessions at the drop-in, including Employment Plus with the Salvation Army, Hepatitis C testing and liver checks with King's College Hospital, benefits and job support from Jobcentre Plus, Emmaus Greenwich outreach, Via drug and alcohol support, homelessness advice from the Royal Borough of Greenwich, legal help from Release, welfare advice from Irish Community Services and an outreach nurse from Change Grow Live. Breathwork, yoga and sonic meditation sessions help with wellbeing.

WSUP was set up in 2010 and is registered with the Charity Commission (charity number 1175999), working across Greenwich, Bexley and Lewisham. It is the Mayor of Greenwich's Charity of the Year for 2026–27, alongside South London Special League.

In our documentary, filmed at the drop-in in the run-up to Christmas, Mark Epps meets the staff, volunteers and guests who make WSUP what it is: the first friendly welcome at the door, the volunteers cooking 70 to 80 hot meals a day, the outreach nurse running a weekly clinic, and guests like Dicky, who found a home with WSUP's help after months without one.

You can help by donating money, giving warm clothes, sleeping bags and toiletries, fundraising, buying from the WSUP shop or becoming a corporate partner. Volunteer recruitment is paused for now, so check the volunteer page for updates.
