Community Spotlight: The Greenwich Centre
The Greenwich Centre in Lambarde Square brings a gym, pools, classes and a community library together, run by the charitable social enterprise GLL.
Not every organisation doing good locally looks like a traditional charity. The Greenwich Centre in Lambarde Square is run by Better, the trading name of GLL (Greenwich Leisure Limited), a charitable social enterprise that began right here in Greenwich. It runs the centre in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Under one roof you'll find a large gym, a 25-metre pool and a teaching pool for swimming lessons and aqua aerobics, and studios for group cycle, yoga, Pilates and barre, with a full week of classes. The Greenwich Centre Library sits alongside, giving the community somewhere to borrow books, study and get online.
The centre caters for all ages, with junior fitness and gymnastics, over-50s classes and women-only swimming, and it works with local GP surgeries on health programmes.
The building is designed to be accessible, with a lift, accessible changing, a poolside hoist, accessible parking and adapted facilities for wheelchair users, and there's bike storage outside. It's a short walk from Maze Hill station.
If you're looking for a winter routine, a swim, a class or just a quiet corner of the library, this is a good place to start.
