Community Spotlight: Firepit Art Gallery and Studios CIC
Firepit is a not-for-profit gallery and studios on Cutter Lane, Greenwich Peninsula. Small Works show runs 6 Nov to 30 Jan.
Firepit describes itself as Greenwich Peninsula's open door. It's an independent gallery and studio building at 10 Cutter Lane, a few minutes' walk from North Greenwich station, which opened in April 2023 in an empty building and became a Community Interest Company in 2024. There are no shareholders: everything the bar, shops, gallery and room hire bring in goes back into the programme and the building.
Eleven artists work full time in the studios, with fifteen languages between them, and the gallery runs a changing programme of exhibitions. There's coffee and armchairs by the windows, a gift shop of work made by Firepit's artists, and a bookshop curated by its in-house press, Sold Out Publishing, which champions under-represented voices.
Most events happen in the Red Room, a sunken, wood-panelled space with a real firepit at its centre. It hosts music and spoken word nights, including Firepit Tales, the open mic that has run since November 2023, along with workshops, life drawing and community events.
The best way to support it is simply to visit, buy from its artists or book an event:
6 November 2026 to 30 January 2027: Does Size Matter? Small Works, over 150 original works, none larger than 50cm
12 November to 5 December: Between Perception and Construction, a two-person exhibition
