Community Spotlight: Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance
Trinity Laban trains musicians and dancers at the Old Royal Naval College and Creekside, with concerts and shows open to the public this winter.
Trinity Laban is a conservatoire and registered charity with its music faculty at King Charles Court in the Old Royal Naval College and its dance faculty at the Laban Building on Creekside in Deptford. It was formed in 2005, when Trinity College of Music merged with the Laban Centre, creating the UK's first conservatoire for music and dance.
Alongside degrees, it trains younger artists through its Centre for Advanced Training and junior programmes, and runs short courses, summer schools and creative music and dance classes for children, young people and adults in the local community.
For the rest of us, Trinity Laban is one of the busiest performance programmes in the area. Its students and staff perform at the Laban Theatre, at Blackheath Halls and around the Old Royal Naval College, and you'll hear them at many local venues too, from St Alfege's lunchtime recitals to evening concerts at the Queen's House.
Going to a performance is the simplest way to support the next generation of local talent:
Tuesday 3 November: lunchtime concert by the Carducci String Quartet, Old Royal Naval College Chapel
Friday 20 November: Trinity Laban String Ensemble and Leon Bosch at Blackheath Halls, marking 50 years since the Soweto Uprising
Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November: Once Upon A Mattress, Laban Theatre
Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December: Cry-Baby, Laban Theatre
